Catch the Olympic Spirit!
As most of you are aware, Shooting is one of the “original” sports showcased at the modern-day Olympic Games. In order for a country to be eligible to send shooters to the Olympics, countries must first earn Quota spots. This in itself is no easy feat as there are only a very limited number of Quotas available and they are only awarded at high level international events where the competition is very intense.
Over the last two years, Canada has been fortunate to have National Team shooters compete at various international competitions and win a total of three Quota spots for Canada, two in Rifle and one in Pistol. Team Trials were then conducted here in Canada last month, where National Team athletes competed for the top spot in each of the events.
Well, we have some very exciting news to share with you. Two of OUR club members have competed in the Team Trials and WON two of the three Olympic spots!
We are very pleased to report that our Tye Ikeda and Mick Escercitato will be representing Canada at the upcoming Paris Olympic Games. Tye will be competing in the Three Position Rifle event and Mick will be competing in the 10M Air Pistol event.
As a Club, we are very proud of the achievements of our fellow members. Please join me in wishing our two athletes all the best in Paris.
